Is the difficulty people are facing mostly coming from public to private? I am not crowing--we just had no difficulty with applications/acceptances going from private to private. That may be a long-term way to look at safety, but it made us feel safe I guess.

We definitely did the “new to area not educated about competition” admissions process this year. It worked out for our 2 DC but we had no idea the probability risk we took applying to just 3 schools.

Nope. Huge wsitlist and the honors program is incredibly difficult to get into.

Basis may be a safety school from what people are saying and then it has a top ranking. If the ranking is accurate, I’m sure it’s as difficult as the rest of these schools to get into. And admissions is very competitive.

Fair question! I actually think the current safety schools are your local public schools *shrug*. Each year post-pandemic, more and more schools report record levels of submitted applications. Competition is so stiff across the board, and does not appear to be subsiding. Hardly any schools have admission easy enough to be considered ‘safety’.
