They may approve a gap year, but most schools say not to apply ED if the student wants a gap year. ED means you commit to showing up in the Fall.

ED doesn’t usually affect whether you can take a gap year. You should look on the school’s website. Typically you have to fill out some sort of form and get approved to take a gap year.

No. Early decision doesn’t allow deferral as you promise to accept the offer of given. What would one be deferring for? You can’t go to anywhere else if you’re accepted.
