I think my family is real middle class. 4 kids, $110k combined income. DD got $0 in financial aid.

A fool and his money are soon parted. You can get an excellent education for $10-30k a year if you study hard and shop around. It’s only the super wealthy dumb enough to spend $85k a year on junior.

I think the middle class is being priced out of a lot things…colleges, housing, good public schools. It doesn’t bode well for society if only a small segment of people can have these things. And by the way, I think the poor are even worse off than the middle class. And no, when I say colleges, I don’t mean elite, super expensive ones. I think that DCUM assumes middle class means 200k plus HHI that keeps increasing over the years. Nah, most of us middle class people have not seen our incomes increase by much. But yet everything is more expensive.

Yes, it's obvious, since tuition costs have increased faster than salaries.

I'll go further. In industrialized societies (industrialization created the middle class), it's that class that provides the fundamentals for a functioning economy. As a block, they contribute the most money.

The middle class is also always the driver of cultural norms and morals. It has a lot of power, even though rising costs have redefined what it means to be middle class.

No she/he wasn't implying that. And I say that as someone who grew up poor and am not solidly middle class. They're saying that group is punished, period. And they are.

The wealthy keep their stranglehold on access to elite institutions- throw some bones to the underclass to deflect criticism. DEI is also designed to racialize what is an income inequality issue. Privilege is tied to whiteness rather than wealth

There has been a lot of research on this. It’s real and totally logical given higher than inflation price hikes for decades.
