DP.. for some people, that is horrible. They want < 10%, and indeed, the neighboring W school has a < 5% FARMs rate.

As a PP pointed out, the academic counseling was worthless - for our first kid, we didn't have any clue about the best way to navigate the curriculum. But again, I assume that's the case for any public HS in this area since counselors are responsible for hundreds of kids.
What nonstop flow of college admissions information have you been getting? I am a little surprised that our high school isn't providing much.

We are very happy with BCC. You do have to work to get the most of out of it, but I assume that's true of all MCPS HS, right? They've had some incidents that made the news recently (2 girls found drunk in the bathroom at 8am). Don't worry, as soon as there's another fight or anti-semetic incident at another W, the hatred will turn

People move to the schools you listed as the good schools to avoid specific groups. Those are in silver spring from bcc
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the “people from Silver Spring” when I attended B-CC. It’s a part of the zone with lots of socioeconomic diversity — there are professors who send their kids to RCF, and recent immigrants living near Rosemary Hills. Please stop stirring your racism, as it’s people with your mentality who go out of their way to make the B-CC experience uncomfortable for diverse groups.
OP — people don’t really like B-CC at times because it can be very hard to navigate, very lax with procedures, and unless you know how to advocate for yourself, you can feel like a number. It’s pretty sink or swim and harder to get to know people if you didn’t grow up there from the get go. I liked it a lot, though. Hope I was objective.

It's something that needs to exist at schools that draw from neighborhoods that aren't wealthy. It's unbelievable how screwed up MCPS is that they don't even look at what kids are signing up for to see if it puts them on a track to graduate.

I went to Whitman, but on this board and in real life, I have seen/heard of a lot of B-CC bashing. People saying it’s not as good as Whitman/Churchill/Wootton/Walter Johnson, Whitman parents scoffing at the idea of their kids being redistricted to B-CC, people on DCUM saying that B-CC is mediocre for its demographics, etc.
I just don’t get it. To me, B-CC seems like a great schools. It’s high-performing, it’s diverse (I know a lot of you will argue otherwise, but the demographics of the school are reflective of the country as a whole, and it is by far more diverse than the surrounding schools).
