Your first call is to the director. If it's note resolved immediately, your second call is to licensing.

I spilled hot coffee on myself from a cup my aunt left in the table when I was 1. I had to have my skin debrided while in a tub and I still have thick scar tissue on my chest and parts of my neck. My mother still talks about how the hearing the other children scream was so hard. She sang a song and I was quiet (idk how) but I was so calm they asked her to soothe the other babies lol.

All this to say, hot coffee/drinks is a major thing I always look out for bc it can happen so quickly and the damage can be permanent.

Talk to director immediately. Wtf. There should not be a coffee pot anywhere near the children.

The thing is, even if it's moved, it shows such an appalling lack of judgment, and lack of supervision that my kid wouldn't go back.

I would take this to the Director if not the county/state licensing board. This is unsafe. I have a family member whose arm is still scarred from having hot tea spilled on them as a child.

I would call licensing and my kid would never be in that woman’s care again.

That is a huge red flag.

How is that not the OP’s business? Do you not understand the potential for their or someone else’s kid to get injured? I doubt the class is just sitting around quietly listening to stories on the mat.

I dropped my son off and noticed the teacher’s coffee maker, turned on and pot full of coffee was right next to a play station. I asked the lead teacher to move it, because, you know, it’s unsafe if a kid topples it and burns themself, and she pushed back saying the kids listen to her and know to stay away from it and she keeps a good eye on them. Huh?
