OP didn't ask ya'll's opinion about her plan. They surely have a reason to want to contact other parents, and that is fine!

OP-- I do agree with prior posters on asking the kid to be the connection, though. I have a MSer and it is common for another kid to ask my kid for my phone number ("My mom asked me to get your mom's number") and I subsequently get a message from the other kid's parent. I like it when people do that-- you shouldn't hesitate to use that mechanism.

In terms of the directory, all of my kids' schools (ES, MS, HS) have one as a way of getting us to join the PTA. I'm not certain, but I think that if you don't join the PTA, you don't get access to it. But you can join anytime and the signup process gives you a link to the directory. So you might search for your school's PTA information and see if they do it that way (I think the directory is called something like A to Z?).

PTSA directories are notoriously difficult to produce in MCPS because of the tight privacy rules. You can’t just allow people opt-out, so you have to get enough people to fill out the form and actually submit it. It’s just not worth the effort sometimes.

But I agree, by 6th grade, kids should be making their own plans. Then he can get the parent contact info directly from his friend if parents need to confirm that an adult will be home or something.

Our PTA did them in ES but none after that. Frankly, most kids have phones so you can just ask your kid for the contact information for their friends.

Sometimes the PTAs do it. Our ES normally does, but we never received one this year.

Does he not have his own phone? Going to be really weird when you reach out to his mom to setup a playdate for your 6th grader.

You could check with your school's PTSA. Sometimes they provide a directory.

Does anyone know if MCPS produces a family / parent directory? I have a son in 6th grade and am looking to contact the parents of some of his friends for social activities.
