^^ I forgot to add, her best bet is meeting kids once school starts. If she joins the girls soccer team, or similar she will automatically have a group of kids she knows better. But she will meet kids in her classes.

My DD just moved mid year 10th grade from Bethesda to another state and she has met more people in actual classes than any other way.

OP the kids doing these summer classes can often do them online.

Which school are you sending her to?

If its in Bethesda there are some art / music / other interest camps for HS age kids at places like Landon Summer.

If she spends a week painting in a room there she will meet kids going to her own HS.

OP, only Health A is available this summer (a 1-semester class). There is a new state graduation requirement that students take a full year of Health, so if they take Health A over the summer, they will still need to find another time later on to take Health B.

My son is planning on taking health. My daughter (twins) is interested in taking something other than health. What other elective would you suggest?

“Most” kids don’t take a bunch of high school classes over the summer before 9th grade. My own rising 9th grader is considering taking health but he’s also a magnet student (only a small proportion are) and doesn’t know anyone else planning to sign up for any summer courses.

Your child shouldn’t think that this of something most kids do. It’s not.

Many kids already have their SSL hours by high school. Mine does. Very few take classes outside MCPS. We have, with a private and not that imrpessive.

What classes do magnet kids take outside the district and where does this info come from?

Definitely health, to get it out of they way! Also - I wouldn't put her in school for 3-4 weeks of school when you moe, that would be torture

We are moving to the area in May (I know, awful time to move a rising 9th grader, can't be helped). My daughter knows another rising 9th grader through a mutual friend and she told my daughter that "most kids" sign-up to take Summer school before 9th grade to get some classes out of the way. My daughter is interested and I said I'd look in to it. But, do kids really do this?! And if so, what classes are they fitting into one Summer? Thanks so much for advice. With the move, all of these tasks/questions are adding-up and stressing me out!
