Downtown Sfoglina has small private rooms. Centrolina can also make a small private area.

Taberna has lots of private room options.

Clyde’s in Chevy Chase is nice. Praline Bakery is a favorite. Both slightly outside of NWDC. I’m guessing that you’d like a place that’s comfortable, with spaces that are quiet enough that you can hear yourself speak, with good food that will please a range of tastes.

We did a private room at Joe Seafood. It was pricey but everyone was happy.

Zaytinya is way too loud. Food was good, but I could barely hear DH across the table from me... impossible to have a conversation.

I agree about Zaytina way too crowded and bustling. I suggest Carmines. Much more chill environment and family style.

Yes to it being quiet! I think Carmines has a bunch of private rooms. Equinox is one of my favorites and it's usually pretty quiet too. Maybe Bombay club?

Agree with PP re picking a place with good ambience that’s not too noisy. If you are looking for more upscale/unique, I really enjoyed Cranes. For a Michelin star restaurant, it has a reasonable tasting menu. Or, even if at a different spot, a tasting menu could be a good option for a large group to reduce complexity with ordering. Is there a certain price point or cuisine you had in mind?

Love this idea. I went once with some older family friends and it was perfect. Parking very near and easy to drop off right in front. With the large table, we basically had private room. Great food and service. Different enough to be special.

Agree. Zaytina too noisy unless you have a private room.

You know your dad best, but many of the elderly folks I know (and some not yet elderly folks as well) would not enjoy a party at a restaurant like Zaytina because it is difficult even for people with few hearing issues to hear in there. With a large group, I would choose the restaurant very carefully-- preferably a private room but if not a dining room with good soundproofing. My DH is only 58 but considers large group gatherings in busy restaurants to be pretty much a nightmare--he has trouble following conversations because of the ambient noise.

Looking for a restaurant for dad's 80th bday, for a group of 14-15 people, downtown or NWDC. Considering Zaytinya. Would appreciate any recs!
