No problem. Someone got paid well for it. Taxpayers funded it!

LIM is a joke. I am responsible for a random group of MS kids for 17 minutes a week during which I click through these ridiculous slides. Our video announcements take up most of my time. Kids laugh at any slide where they discuss or share. Such a waste of time.
If MCPS created secondary advisories like private schools it might actually be useful, but this corporate BS is downright insulting

Class sizes are unmanageable, yet we have the resources to pay for all staff to attend this mandatory training??? Why not use these resources for more teachers?

So lucky! I did that last year. It was amazing.

How did you find it helpful to your MS students? Did you change what you were doing as a teacher, as a result of the training?

There's no way that "so lucky" poster is for real. Especially without giving a reason why.

Agree, troll

It can work at the elementary level. But once the kids hit grade 5 and up LiM starts to fall apart and gets nothing but apathy from students and staff. To the poster above, Leader in Me was a $1.8 million $ budget item passed by the BoE. My strong impression is that it is from care act funding not local taxes. I too dread the training. The thought of teaching LiM gave me anxiety all year since they just through it into my homeroom where all these initiatives go to die.

Where does it go in HS, when there's no daily homeroom? Our school has 2 study hall periods a week where kids can meet with teachers to catch up - are those being given up?

Does your HS not have an advisory period? Once a week or so?
.

Nope. No homeroom or advisory. Two 30(?) Minute blocks a week to be used as needed. Usually kids can make appointments with teachers. Sometimes it's an assembly or presentation.

My own kids do LIM and no one seems to take it seriously at all (teachers or kids).

I have do the training this year and totally dread it. Such a waste of time and money.

Because MCPS is a corrupt and dysfunctional school system with zero oversight.

MCPA wastes so much time and money on useless initiatives that don’t benefit the kids.
