For a newbie, I recommend you go to a place with the carts. Call to ask - they are usually running carts during certain hours only. (eg, weekends 10-3pm). The benefit of the carts is that you can see the food and ask about what you see - pointing and choosing what you like.

Our favorites are Har Now, pork buns (try both baked and steamed), egg custard, tofu skin

Far East has takeout only right now but they used to be the best in MD.

Around the corner is China Garden decent and with carts.

Shrimp dumplings steamed
Scallop same
Chive same
Shu mi pork (not my favorite here but others like them)
Fried Taro
Turnip cake (not my favorite here I like mine browned more)
String beans spicy really good
Yu Choy
Pan fried noodles (not my favorite here other places are better)
Shrimp fried with rice paper

Just order a bunch of things and share.

We order off their menu as well as some special fried rice and tofu dishes.

Enjoy we love dim sum go every week.

Start with har gow - shrimp dumplings. They used to come around with carts and you'd point at what you wanted or nod when they offered, but at the place I go, they stopped that with Covid and now you mark on a sheet what you want and they bring it. They come with 2-4 pieces in a dish so everyone gets one.

Try shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, soup dumplings. Siu mye basically means dumpling - mushed up meat or seafood or veg in a little pastry thingie. We also likes prawns, chicken buns, rice noodle soup, satay chicken, chinese broccoli.

When I try a new cuisine my rule is that I try it three times because sometimes you need to try from a different restaurant, or ordering new things, etc.

I love all sorts of asian foods but had no exposure growing up and my exposure as an adult is limited to when a friend or work colleague wants to go and I follow their lead. Spouse and kids are slowly enjoying more and more.

I've never been to a dim sum brunch or lunch and I read there are some good ones in Rockville. I'd love to take my family but I have no idea how or what or how much to order. Do they come to your table with a cart periodically, so you pick a couple of things each time? Or do you order all up front and the dishes are brought out as they are ready, like a tapas idea.

Also, what quantity do you suggest per person? We'd like to try all/share.

Last, I'd love suggestions for your favorites or ones you consider good introductions.

Thanks! I hope this becomes a regular thing for my family.
