I think students should start thinking about trades if they're not top students. Welders, plumbers, electricians all can be interesting careers.

There are not 'thousands' There are a few hundred at best, far less if you cut out commuter campuses half way across the country. US news calls 443 universities national, and another 180 regional. UDC isn't even the lowest ranked regional university, so if UDC is unimaginably lowly, then your real number doesn't even approach thousands

It is a lot, but Va state schools are surprisingly cheap compared to what instate students are expected to pay for their state schools in PA, NJ, IL and New England.

With the escalating cost of higher education, in-state schools are getting more competitive since they are usually cheaper than private or out-of-state schools. As many students get shut out of the tippy-top schools, they look at other in-state options. The profile of schools like GMU, UMW, and VCU improve as a result since they are getting students that previously would have gone to higher-rated schools. A rising tide lifts all boats.

I could be wrong but i think we're at an apex, demographically, and the number of applicants will soon start to fall in line with a declining number of high school seniors in the state overall.

I believe my DD said her graduating class is one of the biggest her school has ever had.

B students have plenty of options. It's not "very difficult" for them to get into them. GMU, VCU, ODU, VSU, and Radford have acceptance rates over 90%. Longwood, Norfolk State, CNU, UMW, UVA Wise, and JMU have acceptance rates in the 80s.
