SOLs begin in third grade so your child must have been a late addition to LIV.

SOLs are used to help determine who should be in Advanced Math and LIII at our school. High SOL scores go along with grades and iReady scores to place kids into Advanced Math and LIII. Our school uses a cluster model for LLIV so I don't think the SOL impacts Principal Placement since everyone gets the LIV curriculum. But there is a separate Advanced Math class and passing advanced on the math SOL is important to be placed in that group or stay in that group.

In ES, the only non-math benefit is getting your child comfortable with taking them since they will need to do so in HS courses. The current graduation requirement for verified credits is 1 each in math, science and social studies plus two in English.

Apparently SOLs are a part of earning some awards when your kid is promoted in 6th grade. There has been a conversation in the main FCPS page about how angst causing these awards can be.
