How hard is Maths BC in 11 th grade at AOS?

AOS math is quire unique, with focus more on how to handle data for datamodeling, and the analysis of data more like math courses designed for writing science lab reports as they do have a lot of science labs. The mateerial is desgned for self learning .. so if kid get stuck on HW ..theey just read further ahead into other lectures and do a little bit of research on line. 10th AOS math is quite challenging for most students. Many AOS kids will not make directly to BC calculus by 11 th garade.

AOS students will get much better in Statistics by 10th grade. Some of them did do very well in AP Statistics by 10th grade.

I haven't noticed any of this in the 9th grade AOS math. Closest was multiplying matrices, and transformations of figures on a graph.

This course is the first in a series of integrated math courses (two-year sequence of courses) designed for AET students. Students study Algebra 2 with Trigonometry and AP Precalculus as an integrated progression of math topics and learn additional content typically taught in geometry, advanced algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, and introductory calculus. The course is inquiry-based with much of the content learned through investigations, applications, simulations, and problem-based exercises.

SOL Test This course provides the foundation for investigation of mathematical systems and their interrelationships from a transformational approach. Elementary and transcendental functions, parametric equations, polar coordinates, matrices, and linear algebra are studied in context-rich, data-driven application problems. A scientific, inquiry-based methodology is utilized to clearly connect mathematical concepts to topics in the integrated physical sciences course. The course places heavy emphasis on mathematical communication, reasoning, authentic problem solving, critical thinking, and multiple representations of mathematical concepts.

I have heard from parents of kids in both AOS and AET and the general consensus was that AOS is a bit of a struggle if you want to maintain good GPA. It’s easier in AET. Courses in both programs are very challenging and rigorous but kids in AOS seem to struggle keeping up with their grades as per their expectations from earlier grades. A friends kid recently got accepted to both but is choosing AET as she’s worried her grades and GPA would fall at AOS, although she likes it equally as AET.

Does anyone know what is the difference between AOS Math over AET Math? Is one more rigorous compared to the other? DC got accepted to both AOS and AET. He loves research and is very interested in the science pathway. He has done well in Math thus far and taking the Algebra 2/Trig class in 8th, but is not a Math geek. He wants to accept the AOS application but heard that AOS Math can be quite challenging. Would the AOS program still be the right fit for him if he is willing to put in extra effort in Math? This decision is so confusing.
