The nice thing to do is tell them sooner rather than later. I would email the principal and admissions director then get the paperwork going so you don’t get charged.

It's these questions that make me wonder how many people in DC are technically "smart" and "accomplished" with absolutely zero common sense. How is this hard?

If you are definitely leaving you should tell admissions office asap. Then they can fill your spot.

We did ask for recommendations from teachers. We also paid our deposit in February so I think we should let them know formally.

Tell them now - why would you wait?

Let them them know now so they can fill the slot. You can let admissions or the principal know. They talk.

You should probably let two people know
- the admissions director at your current school (so they know a spot has opened for WL of incoming students)
- the person in charge of your 2023-24 contract (to find out how to formally give notice that you are not attending so you will not be on the hook come June 1 for next year's tuition at k-8)

We applied out early from a k-8 school this year. We were accepted to our first choice and have just paid deposit. Should we let our k-8 school know that we are leaving now (we've also paid deposit at our k-8 school for the next year)? Whom should we contact? Admin director? Thank you all!
