If you go to the Container Store with closet measurements, they will price out a closet system for you so you can get the costs of just the materials.

Can you do shelves instead of drawers - the drawers are the $$ part of this. I had a local closet company do double racks, shelves, shoe storage, and a hamper for less than $2K.

The pieces could come out to be more than $1k. IME, the cheapest you can possible get is about $1k. I did four closets in the last two years and two others about a decade ago.

You could spend $5,000 or $50,000. Or you could build it yourself for $500. It all depends on what you want.

Drawers are pricey. To save money you could put an IKEA dresser in the closet and just do rods/shelves around it.
