I wondered about this after our visit. My daughter shadowed and felt like it was much easier than what she's doing now (she's a rising 10th grader) and was in a class with seniors on shadow day. I didn't know if she was just saying that so we would disregard the school (she wants to stay where she is). Having friends for the first time is so important. We haven't gotten there yet....
There are some 9th grade specific classes, but otherwise all the grades are mixed. But it's definitely less rigorous than other schools. That is appropriate for my child, but obviously isn't appropriate for everyone. We supplement in areas of strength, but that's easier than supporting in areas of challenge, which we've done at previous schools.
