Perimenopause is the worst. The pounds would not come off despite doing everything mentioned here—WW, weights, no alcohol, walking, tracking food. The only thing that’s worked is Ozempic. Turns out I’m prediabetic. Down 23 lbs and back to normal BMI.

Intermittent fasting, no alcohol, cut sugar, green tea.

Walking is a start, but isn't enough on it's own. Add in some other exercise. I've gotten into the Carolyn Girvan workouts on youtube, but you could also find pilates or some other HIIT workout to do. You need some weights.

How much are you walking now and how much do you want to increase it to?

Carbs. It’s all about the carbs.

I lost 30 lbs at 51 (pre menopause) by eliminating as many carbs as possible. No potatoes, only whole grains when we did have carbs like bread (which was rare). More vegetables. Portion control. Exercise. It took about 6-7 months. We've generally stuck with that approach to eating.

I kept most of it off for 6-7 years. But menopause and the pandemic brought 20+ lbs back and I have found it much harder to lose weight post menopause. Also starting to see health impacts from being overweight. So I have now started ozempic and it is making a huge difference. Remains to be seen how much I will lose but 30 lbs is the goal. Worth looking into if you haven't already.

If you're female, are you pre or post-menopause?

I’m 50 with about the same weight loss goal. In January I started the peleton app subscription and am doing strength training, yoga and stretching. I work out most days of the week. I am working through a prior knee injury but am able to run three days a week. And I use a calorie tracking app regularly and honestly. I’ve lost about 12 pounds so far, 21 to go. The weights make me feel stronger and better about my progress even though the weight loss feels slow going at times.

Try to get at least 6 hours of exercise in per week
Limit snacking (I suck horribly at this); aim for 3 meals/day
Make water your only beverage

Weight watchers really works. It's not that fun to measure your portions and track your points, but it works and it's more flexible than a lot of other diets. Walking is great too for many reasons, but it isn't going to burn a lot of calories.

How much do you weigh now? Aim to lose 1-2 pounds a week. Track everything you eat. And make sure you are honest with yourself. Watch serving size and follow it religiously. One cup of cereal..not two cups. write down what you drink...one tablespoon of milk, one teaspoon of sugar etc. Add up your calories and see where you can cut. Notice when you are eating. Are you bored? Maybe drink some water or go for a walk. Then get 30 minutes of exercises a day or 150 minutes of exercise per week. It is important to get strength training like weights, yoga for flexibility and balance and aerobic to get your heart rate up.

Instead of cutting everything out and failing just be practical. You don't have to stop eating dessert just eat less/

This is really it. Get a fitness tracker or use your phone to track your steps. It's amazing how many calories you burn walking.
