I dye my hair, but with a permanent dye. I sometimes wet it before getting in the pool, sometimes do not. I only use a Lycra cap, because I love the feeling of my hair being submerged (I have thick hair, so I think it cools my scalp). I use Triswim chlorine shampoo after, and it works pretty good. My hair probably fades faster than it would, but it does not turn green.

This is what I was going to say. Take a shower and condition your hair really well before you jump in the pool.

This is what I do with dyed hair. Wet, put on conditioner, don't rinse, and put on silicone cap.

Ew, don't do this anywhere but your own private home pool, please.

yeah if they catch you doing that then you'll be in trouble - contaminating the water.

It should be fine if you use a swim cap and purple shampoo weekly

I'm a once-a-week swimmer, shoulder-length gray hair, thinking of dying it to cover the grays. Probably would dye using natural dyes like henna. I don't typically use a swim cap but I guess I could. Is this going to work?
