Probably this.

There's also the possibility of attributing the value of the items to the parent's estate - although I understand your parent has not passed. A friend of mine had this happen with some valuable jewelry her mother had. Her sister took it while the mother was ill in the hospital. Friend was the executor of the estate and after the mom passed requested the items back. The sister refused/denied she had the jewelry. But there was a record of it and it had been appraised. Sister showed up on IG wearing the jewelry. Friend as executor had the estate lawyer send a letter and inform sister that she had to return the jewelry or her portion of the final estate would be reduced by the appraised value of the jewelry. The jewelry was returned.

OMG, how do people do this?

Put some game cameras in the yard and mount some exterior cameras.

You can consult with a lawyer but you will probably have to go to.the police. If sibling refuses to communicate with anyone then there's not much else you can do.

If they took jewelry and items of value, make a police report.

Does your older sibling have a history of disturbing behavior? If so, why does OS have a key to the house? Do your parents want you to file a police report?

Yes, definitely change locks!

I have POA. My elderly parent is in their own home with a live-in caregiver - just as an in case something happens. The live in is not from this area, but a very old family friend. Older sibling has come and pretty much removed everything of value except furniture from parent's house when live-in was out with parent on a day trip. For example: items of $ value and family lineage items - photos. Parent and I asked older sibling why they did this they refuse to give an answer. I've then asked for copies of photos and never have received them. Sibling is rejecting all forms of communication then sent a out of the blue message blasting me for sh*t that supposedly happened 25 years ago e.g. you all "took my stuff as a teen" - just bs statements. Not really sure what they are referring to or what parent and I can do.
PS hate to get police involved for this petty stuff.
