Did you watch it? I’m curious how you came to this conclusion because they seemed to present that as the least likely theory. Not that the US shot it down "for some reason."
I think the likeliest explanation is the pilot had a death wish for some reason and crashed it into the ocean. Since rescuers were looking in the wrong place after the initial disappearance the wreckage dispersed or sank.
