If instead they process each acceptance and withdrawal of application as they come in, then they might give the spots to students who are accepted to the other school.

It is possible they will still give students a spot who have already accepted to another school, but I think they would not.

OP here. Thank you!! DC was accepted into the AET program. The first wave of the waitlist has been processed.

Hopefully TJ results should come out soon.

Had called the Academies admission office and they said wave 1 emails for students on the waitlist will go out today. Wave 2 will go out once TJ results come out.

The waitlists are separate.

Thank you!

Eventually, none of this makes any difference as the waitlisted student will either get accepted or rejected, but DC has these questions while stressing over the waitlist and I don't have answers to any of these. The pressure that these kids put on themselves is unbelievable!

PP here. I just realized that a poster above has already answered this question!

Private day school commitments are due Friday so that may open up spots, boarding school commitments are due next Friday, and catholic school commitments were due last Friday.
Spots could open as a result.

Kid is a junior at AET. 3 years back they were waitlisted at both AET and AOS. but came off waitlist in April. Another friend got off waitlist in June. However, the waitlist is pretty long and they won't say what your place is. There were other kids from my kid's school who continued on the waitlist until it got closed once the new school year started.

So would the next available spot on the waitlist go to those students who have not received an acceptance to either AOS or AET, or would it be offered to those students who have been accepted to one of the academies but are waitlisted for the other?

Spots will clear as students get admitted to TJ, plus at least one spot for students were admitted to both AOS and AET.

What are the chances of DC getting off the waitlist for AOS or AET (waitlisted for both)? Typically how many students are waitlisted per school?
