Planning ahead but essentially the same types of games I remember enjoying at my friend’s parties as a kid. We did wheelbarrow races, potato sack (I’ll need to find actual ones if they still exist), little relays across the field, and general running and playing freely, etc..

I'm someone who overheats and passes out from it, and have done that since age 4, so I wouldn't do that. I don't spend time outside in the summer in the DMV. In the shade in New England, sure.

If there is shade, like a pavilion and it’s earlyish morning/mid morning or in the evening it’s fine. Full sun, nope.J would do 90 mins. 60 mins to play. 30 to eat pizza and do cake. Then if people want to leave after cake they can. If anyone wants to hang out longer they can.

The only appropriate July outdoor party in DC is a pool party. And only acceptable for drop off ages as no parents want to get into the pool.

I think that with water vs. without makes a huge difference. I have July birthday kids. I've taken small groups to a water park for the party and we lasted all day!
On the other hand, I think 90 - 120 minutes is about right for kids without parents, and pushing it for parents.

My July birthday kid had lots of water-themed parties. First home parties when young (kiddie pools, water guns, etc.), then later at our pool, with breaks for pizza and cake.

How old are the kids? My answer depends heavily on their age and whether or not some form of water feature (pool, sprinklers, whatever) is part of the plan.

I used to have friends as a child with a July birthday - one would always have a community pool party and the other party at a park near her home.
Is it unreasonable to have an 1hr30m party outdoors? 1hr seems to short but 2hr too long?
