I’m not knocking meal subscriptions but if you feel like your dinners are to labor intensive and not appreciated take it down a notch. Do gourmet meals if you want to, if not, do something easy/quick. Nothing I make takes longer than 25 mins, most meals are done in 10-15 mins.

Get Tovala - it is a smart oven with a fresh meal delivery service. It's especially great for teenagers because it's about 1 minute of prep time, scan the bar code, wait for 10-20 minutes, then a healthy meal comes out.

I would tell your kids that they are now going to be involved in meal planning, including making a list, shopping, prep, and cleanup. For which nights do they want to be responsible?

Go from there.

Ordering a bunch of food from Blue Apron is not a whole lot different than getting takeout, it's just more work for you.

I disagree. Getting kids to do that is going to be a massive amount of work for OP. Getting them to make a meal from a subscription box would be much easier.

With a meal box, OP won’t have to think about what is for dinner on those nights. It completely takes care of decision fatigue. And if you have your kids and husband help choose the meals, they have only themselves to blame if they don’t like what they picked.

It’s actually quicker and not much more work to make a subscription meal, for me anyway. When you do takeout, you have to choose where you’re going to get it from, everyone has to choose their specific orders, and then you have to go pick it up. With a subscription box you just stand there and follow instructions and don’t have to use any brain cells. It’s actually faster and cheaper too, assuming your takeout isn’t fast food.

But tasking them with the whole process is also teaching them a life skill they need to know, so….

We do Vegetable and butcher periodically (but it seems like it’s not really set up for families)

I've done Hello Fresh and Blue Apron in the past and like them but the meal kits still took about 45 minutes to cook. It never really solved my problem of time constraints. We've started ordering from Mighty Meals and I really like it. We've had two deliveries. The food is fresh and the meals are good. We're getting more veggies in. I have to be sure I select things my child will eat too, but so far so good. It's a great option when life is busy with work, school, activities, sports, etc.

I enjoy it occasionally, when I’m just over meal planning. I typically order burgers and stuff my kids will also eat. The servings are smaller than I would typically make (so no leftovers) and after a week following the recipes can feel tedious (at least for me) but it’s a nice break from thinking!

I like the variety of the meal kits. We get three a week because honestly they take longer than claimed. Switched from Hello Fresh to Home Chef about a month ago because of the significant decline in quality from Hello Fresh. I'm talking about multiple weeks straight of rotten produce/wrong ingredients/missing ingredients/meat leaking and destroying produce and multiple contacts with customer service. It's too bad to because Hello Fresh was REALLY good! Home Chef has been fine with some of the meals being really good and others just ok. They are also more expensive. The biggest pro to Home Chef for me is that they separate ingredients and have some meals with pre-chopped produce. I'm considering giving Blue Apron a try but have always heard they were more complicated and I just don't have time for that.

Same. I don't get it every week at this point, but it certainly helps and I don't have to go to the grocery store too often.

When we do go to the store its for milk, fruit, cereal, bread. It's a very short list.

We used Hello Fresh for a while, but for just two people it was actually too much food and the prep effort is not inconsequential. Additionally, if you happen to not be in the mood for the meal du jour, the ingredients can only be held for a limited time before they spoil so you're pretty much locked in to the planned menu, on schedule. On the plus side, the meals were good, the prep instructions clear and useful for recreating the meals using your own ingredients later, and the concept promoted working together in the kitchen as an activity. It's well worth trying, especially if you have a promo code.

I never thought I'd do Blue Apron or Hello Fresh but I am
- tired no one giving me meal ideas but complaining about what I made
-figure kids 14, 16 are perfectly capable of cooking (long overdue lesson)
-too much take out lately.
-think we may be introduced to new meals
If you have tried a subscription please share your experience, preference.
