Shrevewood has field trips and PTA sponsored events. Their PTA is fantastic and very involved.

No field trips is not the case for my kids. - Shrevewood parent.

Do your due diligence on Kilmer. It’s had as many downs as ups in recent years.

Shrevewood is diverse. Many people want their kids going to school in a diverse environment both socioeconomically and racially. It is great real world experiences.
Some people prefer to have everyone look the same and be in the social class. That is not real life.
I am happy my kids are learning how to be friends with, learn with, play with, get along with all types of people and cultures.

There is a really popular Catholic school within walking distance of Shrevewood, I think that is probably what PP is talking about. There are a lot of families in our neighborhood that go there including several that switched their kids there during the pandemic because they wanted their kids in person and then never switched back.

OP - if you have a smart kid, they'll do fine. If you have an average or below average kid, they will be ignored. I hear it's the same at all FCPS schools.

We were in the Marshall pyramid but not Shrevewood and my impression was that there was more grumpiness at Shrevewood than at some of the Marshall feeders but people were generally happy. The grumpiness seemed to relate to the following:

* People didn't like one of the prior principals (not the current one, who seems well-liked).

* People were angry that the AAP kids from Shrevewood attending an AAP center got shuffled from Haycock to Lemon Road.

* People were upset that FCPS was slow to deal with the pre-Covid overcrowding when some areas that feed into Shrevewood are closer to Stenwood.

* There have been grumblings about the relative size of the Gen Ed and LLIV classes at various times.

* People know the boundaries are going to get adjusted in a few years when Karl Frisch's silly Dunn Loring school opens (though this is more of an issue for Stenwood and Freedom Hill than Shrevewood).

Maybe I missed something but those were the main things I heard. The neighborhoods that feed into Shrevewood like Falls Hill are very nice and there's good access to the W&OD trail (just avoid the areas right under the power lines).

If you love the house, you can deal with the school. If your child is eligible for level VI services, you can send your child to Lemon Road Es in 3rd grade. (If things are not working out.)

This is our 10th year at Shrevewood. Overall, I think it has been fine. Lots of nearby kids to play with after school. My kids were in AAP and we kept them at Shrevewood. I'm not convinced the new classroom clustering is the way to go, but we are almost done and wasn't going to upset the apple cart there.

That said, my kids were completely prepared for Kilmer and Marshall, still have some Shrevewood friends, and have fine memories of Shrevewood.

OP, I think Shrevewood parents are particularly vocal on DCUM given it's proximity to DC. If you found a house you love, I wouldn't let Shrevewood stand in your way. It's a perfectly fine school.

DC goes to Kilmer, many of her friends went to Shrevewood. They all speak fondly about their elementary school experience. That's limited feedback but it warms your heart when children love their school.

Behaviors are out of control. Leadership is absent or at the very least inexperienced. Too many kids. Get the sense the turnover will be high with staff. Recommend you go elsewhere.

We're looking at a house that we LOVE that is zoned for Shrevewood. It seems to come up a lot in this forum - and reviews seem to be very mixed, especially about the AAP program. Can anyone share recent thoughts?
