My older son was like this for years until we figured out to use clear zinc oxide (we use a CVS brand available as cream or stick).

We used to use the regular california baby sunscreen for about 4 years, no problem. Ironically, my whole family breaks into a rash on the face with the new sensitive sunscreen. I posted on their Facebook page, but have yet to get a response

I think my 4 year old is reacting to sunscreen too. I think too washing it off as soon as possible after you get in really helps. I notice myself how icky I feel until I take a shower and get it off of me.

Thank you all. Especially for the warnings about hydrocortisone and the ideas for new sunsceens. I think I will let the rash rest for a couple of days and then contact our ped. if it doesn't resolve by then.

We've done ok with our crazy-sensitive-skin toddler by putting a base layer of Aveeno moisturizer (not sunblock, but the Aveeno Soothing Relief Moisture Cream) on his entire body, and then putting sunscreen over that 10-20 minutes (or more) later. Sunscreen straight on his skin gives a terrible rash, but with the moisturizer underneath he doesn't get rashes. And the effectiveness of the sunscreen doesn't seem to be compromised by this approach.

My DD is super sensitive and can only use sunscreen that is titanium dioxide ONLY. We use Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby - no rashes.

I believe cortisone is not recommended for use on the face (my kid has eczema, so we've encountered this before). I'd tend to let the skin heal itself.

Be careful with cortisone and use VERY sparingly.
Aloe might do the trick, as might an oatmeal wash. Don't use antibacterial cream because that is harsh and unrelated to the problem.

We use Coppertone Water Babies on our kids with sensitive skin and have never had a problem with it.

My daughter gets rashes from some sunscreens too. I use Alba for face which actually does not have that high an SPF. I have also tried Coppertone Sensitive Skin Faces with 50 SPF and that has been working very well. It is a new product and I found it last week so I can't speak to its long term reliability, but so far so good with every day use.

I would appreciate any other suggestions for sunscreen, however.

Does anyone else have a super-sensitive skinned toddler?
My 22 month old has a rash on her cheeks from California Baby Super Sensitive Sunscreen. What other kind of sunscreen can I use that is more sensitive than that?!
And does anyone know if I should treat with a cream (antibacterial or other)? I don't want to wait until Monday when my Ped is back in the office. TIA
