I meant to copy the rules I didn’t. Rule number nine talks about your local group’s culture. I think that is where letting it simmer, and posting or deleting and expressing gratitude comes from. It seems like groups have leeway to do that but, it is not a BNP rule it is just your groups rule.

My Buy Nothing group admins take such a long time to approve posts that by the time they get posted, I usually offer it to the first poster. It had already “simmered” enough in the pending post phase and I just want it gone! 💨

You do not have to post who you gifted anything to an any site run by any organization. This can, and usually is, done privately.

You absolutely do NOT have to let anything simmer. It's giver's choice - they may need an item gone by a certain time/day. This is what the PP was talking about - all the Ninny's making up new rules (simmer??? that's just dumb)

There are people posting things all the time then never showing or saying who they went to. I'm starting to think they just want people to beg and never give the item up!

That's nice. I've successfully given things away and have received them from my local BuyNothing for about three years. The vast majority of actual users just want things gone/just want pick-up to be reliable. We're in a good groove and enjoy it, and we really don't care about some raisin-faced old biddy trying to bend the universe to her will. We do as we please, and we give and receive, and it's all good for us.

When they don't say who it went to it doesn't look like the item was even gifted. The poster should publicly say who it went to then DM them the address. It's very suspicious to me when this doesn't occur, especially when the offer is like an "almost new iphone 9" then looks like it went to no one.

Our local group the admins really encourage people to update their original post to say GIFTED to Larla once it's gone. But as a PP said, I think a lot of times the poster just sends a message privately, and just forgets to edit the post.

sometimes the poster DMs the one they have chosen. i think they normally do this when there is a lot of interest in the item

After someone posts an offer and there are replies with people asking for it, isn't the poster supposed to pick a person on the comments section and DM them an address? Lots of things posted but don't look like they go anywhere is this normal?
