During the pandemic we went down to one car, kept the SUV. We just put down a deposit on an electric car for in town use. So essentially going from his/her car to in-town/out-of-town car situation. Both WFH.

We had 2 cars until 2 months back. Sold it when it is close to end of life.

With both WFM, even 1 car hardly gets used. We need two exactly once a week for 1 hour because the two kids activities are at the same time and they are in different directions. We are using Uber for that.

Yep. We’re having a third, so last year I sold my very old SUV and my husband sold his pick up truck, and we got a new Telluride. We both WFH and are very centrally located, so it works for us. Love it!

No way. I don't want to share a car with my spouse!

We did this but during the pandemic. It worked just fine until our 3 kids were fully back to doing sports and activities. We finally bought a car this past fall and I'm very happy to have the second car, even if we only drive it about 200 miles a month.

We may have been able to keep only 1 car if our kids weren't in so many activities, but then again my parents are retired, with no children at home but yet they still have two cars so YMMV.

Lot of people went to one car during the Pandemic

Many of our friends are not going to get the second. With WFH no real need. Uber for those times were they need the second.

We just bought a second because one of ours the lease was up.

Not leasing again (Audi last car only reason we leased)

I hate car payments and we normally keep our cars.

Totally a personal decision. My adult children live in ciities none have cars their uber bill a month is less than car & insurance.

We thought about it, but the 2nd car is older and paid off.

Both spouses WFH but we each go in maybe 1x/month for a happy hour, hair appointment, etc. I am high risk pregnant, entering 3rd tri, so I go to the OB weekly starting this week.

The 2nd car is great because whoever has our daughter (or is in charge of drop-off/pick-up) has our "nice" car with the car seat, and the other person isn't left stranded at home. We would definitely make it work with 1 car if it meant taking on another car payment.

We did during the pandemic. It was totally doable then. Now we are back to two, but we have different schedules.

Yes - we think about this. However, we bought our second car in Feb. 2020 so literally one month before everything shut down. Now DH always works from home and I work from home 4 days a week and we don't need the second car. We were getting a lot of offers from the dealer to sell it back to them but never pulled the trigger.

I would figure out what you spend for insurance, registration, parking, maintenance on your second can in a year. That's how much you have to spend on renting a car, uber, car to go etc. and still be better off. You will probably be surprised how much money you will save for those few times a year when not having a second car is an inconvenience.

We decided to let our youngest take one of our cars back to college with her last fall. At that time we intended to buy a second car, but that just kept slipping down the to-do list. We live in CCMD and are both WFH. We've found that we can get along fine with one car. We walk or bike a lot and very occasionally use ride-shares. We can also walk to the Metro, though I don't think either of us has been on Metro in months . .. . maybe even years? We've thought about getting a ZipCar membership, but, that too has slipped pretty far down on our to-do list. At this point, I think it's unlikely we'll get a second car.

We’ve only ever had one. We live in the suburbs. It’s a non issue.

We have one car because the 2nd car was on an accident and it has taken 6 months to secure the appropriate parts. About 1-2 times a week, it would be nice to have two cars as the kids need to be in opposite places at the same time. We Uber in these situations. There is also a toll on one parent if it is not feasible to share the kids carpooling.

we just put a deposit down for a third car. but if one works for you, then there's no harm in trying it out.

With car prices as high as they are, it is very difficult to justify having two cars with both of us work from home. We drive about 5 miles round trip per day for school drop off/pick up and weekend errands. Sometimes even less if whether is nice and kids take the bus. We have to make an effort to ensure both cars are driven (e.g., if one car is used to go to school during the week, the other car is used for weekend errands). The idea of his and hers cars seems totally antiquated and wasteful. I'm seriously considering that when the oldest car (which is very old) dies, I may not replace it. The only thing that gives me pause is an emergency where the one car breaks down. We live in the suburbs but I suppose there is always Uber or Lyft.
