Zero. That is not a recognized sport for MCPS. Some schools may have a club organized by the students.

A club is still a team.

No. In context of which SCHOOL has a team, the answer is zero. There are no coaches, funding or facilities for horsemanship teams in mcps.

But this is also true of ice hockey, which also has many CLUBS. Not teams.

MCPS doesn’t find them, but parents pay for coaches for clubs. B-CC has a crew team with coaches. They compete and represent BCC. MCOS may not find it, but it is still a team. Parents at other schools pay for coaches for horsemanship. They represent those schools and are also teams, despite having to raise all funds themselves.

This is OP - OK, so maybe I need to phrase the question differently: which MCPS schools have equestrian CLUBS that compete in local interscholastic shows?

It was active until the pandemic. It could be resurrected but students and or ends would need to step up to organize it.

Cool. Do you happen to know the names of the teachers/coaches involved?

All I know is that it was through Rock Creek stables. We are at Meadowbrook, and one of the people working there had a BCC equestrian shirt, so it prompted a conversation.

This interschool horse show website lists team standings for varsity and JV for this year and includes points for teams from Cabin John, Churchill, Damascus, Francis Scott Key, Wood MS, Poolesville, and Whitman. Other MCPS schools listed (but with zero points, so unclear if they actually have teams competing this year) include Blake, Einstein, BCC, Northwest, West MS, Paint Branch, and Sherwood. I have a horse-riding kid at one of the listed schools that has no points and haven't heard anything about an equestrian team, but now I want to look into it.

I think that's more of a perk you can expect from a private school rather than public....

This list is from 2018 so not sure how up-to-date it is. Includes BCC, Northwood and Sherwood.

I think none. They are sponsored by private club teams.

I did a Google search but some of the info is very out of date and others are unclear whether it's an equestrian club (like horse appreciation) or they actually ride together in local shows.
