I thought this was going to be about an older kid. But a 1st grader? Do people even believe what they say anyway?

Our kid has decided not to tell friends until closer to end of year.

This! I would not have told a 1st grader if I didn’t want others to know. Ideally let others know in May.

O good lord. The school already knows. First graders won’t care. If you are a grown up, you can handle the other parents.

Don’t tell your first grader to lie.

I wouldn’t tell my first grader not to share. If I didn’t want him sharing I wouldn’t tell him. I would probably wait and tell him a week or two before the last day.

We went through this last year. I told my closest parent friends (about three) who kept it quiet for me, then in May we spread the word. Worked well

I wouldn’t make a young kid keep a secret like that. Chances are they will mention it anyway.

I would wait until very late to tell tigers. Confidentially tell the principal or key teachers but so t let them blab. They really only need to know to fill a spot or set homerooms for next year.

Our pk-12 is known for trying to get peer parents call you and tell you to stay. Every if you’re relocating! I refused to call a family who was leaving for NYc, I thought that was ridiculously bad form. And moving house is no joke so why harass the family about your school.

Should we have our DC keep the news to themselves for a few weeks? Or tell their friends right away? Don’t want to risk friends being upset and DC being a bit friendless. Wondering what y’all are doing.
