Also have had both. We use the gas one all the time. The wood one was occasional use and only on weekends.

+1
And if there ever is a next house, it will have a gas fp, but no chimney (to save $$) and no wood fp.

We converted our wood burning fireplaces to gas. The wood was nice for ambiance but that was it. Unless you were sitting right in front of it you didn’t feel any of the heat. With the gas it actually heats the room, which we really needed in one of the rooms.

If the entire house smells like smoke there is something wrong.

Wood hands down. There is just no comparison and the hassle is overrated IMO. You can have wood delivered and it's as simple as sweeping up the ashes from time to time.

I have wood burning with a gas starter. I use it a good bit during the winter.

Wood burning for sure. Gas is pointless and artificial.

Wood all the way. Go electric before gas.

I prefer gas. Wood Stoves and the smoke can be overwhelming.

We’re in the process of designing a new home and the fireplace came up for the living room. I hadn’t thought about it much, but I love a gas fireplace. However, DH wants a wood burning one. I grew up with a wood burning fireplace and growin up, we used it maybe 4 times a year due to the hassle and having to always wait for it to fully mature and burn.
What do you all prefer / have? Pros and cons of each??
