It seems silly to ban ICE cars by some date because it’s not like they have a hard time selling EVs. They sell as they are produced, so ICE cars are already being replaced as fast as they can produce EVs. In 2023-2024 a lot more models will hit the showrooms and the rate will only increase. Some manufacturers won’t even be producing an ICE model by the early-mid 2030s. Not much need to mandate it.

It’s actually not a lie. It was a dumb move by Virginia Democrats in 2021 to tie themselves to California’s legislation to ban gas cars but that is exactly what they did.
