Please hire an electrician to install your home charger. You need to run a new copper wire from your box to the charger. An electrician will help you get the max charge from your charger safely. We usually get about 19 kW. We called three electricians for quotes and went with one who had 2 electric vehicles and a home charger. He sent two of his employees to do the work. They had installed 70 chargers already in a new development and had lots of experience.

The installation, as well as the charger, may be eligible for tax credits to offset the cost of hiring the electrician, OP. It's pretty high voltage; I've done things like replace light switches or receptacles myself, but I didn't even for a minute consider installing my own L2 charger.

This is what we did. There are companies that specialize in installing Level 2 chargers, but in my experience they have way more business than they can handle and so they juice up their bids. For example, I got one bid that had the wiring go up to my basement ceiling and then come down again on the outside to sink into a trench, when all that was needed was to drill a hole next to the box and go outside to the trench from there.

For my location, it does not seem that hard. I know what breaker I need, what gauge wire I need and how to install it. The main issue I have is that doing the conduit doesn’t look easy. It will probably need to be galvanized because of my hot garage and doing all of bends and threading looks like a PITA.
