As to the bolded, most of these stores require workers to be over 18.

Check the websites of your town and nearby towns. They sometimes have summer jobs.

Food service or maybe retail. If they have the skills there is lifeguarding. I saw that Boating in DC is hiring people for the summer but IDK how old you need to be.

You have to be 18 to do that.

Pizza chain. At 15 a work permit was required for mine. I was impressed by the state mandated strict rules ~ re: hours she could work, she wasn't allowed to use the oven or use a knife. She took orders, folded boxes. Did lots of other stuff.

Last summer, my son was unable to find a job putting in loads of applications through Indeed. He was able to get some interviews, but many places aren't looking to fill positions just for the summer.

I would advise looking for a job now for limited hours that will continue through the summer. If possible, apply directly on the company's website and look for in-person hiring events in retail, grocery stores, and restaurants.

Also, try applying in person for locally owned businesses. My son's experience applying in-person last summer was that most businesses told him to apply online.

My 17yo DS is looking for a summer job but he insists that he doesn't like kids. He applied for a bunch of summer jobs through USAJOBS but of course hasn't heard back.

Any suggestions? I keep telling him to look at retail, but of course if I say it, then he does the opposite. Sigh.

He listens to my DH (his dad) more than me, so I'm hoping people here have some helpful suggestions that I can pass along through my DH.

TIA!
