It's basically breed/personality but my lab mix would also eat weird stuff when he had an upset stomach so good to keep an eye on that and rule it out.

The only dog I've ever had who wasn't eager for seconds was a beagle/shiba mix, and I was so unused to it that I worried a lot.

They don’t even have to be able to see it. My blind dog has no trouble sniffing out food and getting it out of packaging.

He mostly sticks to actual food, but he’ll eat some things that are merely food adjacent, such as paper muffin wrappers that are soft and moist and covered in residual muffin. If he steals a mini candy bar at Halloween, he’ll wolf it down, wrapper and all. He doesn’t get that you’re not supposed to eat banana peels, so we can’t leave bananas on the countertop.

Other than a few greens and tofu, he’s been happy to eat every kind of food he’s sampled, and he’s never full.

Dogs can develop pica. In puppies, it’s super common to eat everything.

My medium northern breed dog never eats anything except his own kibble. His small Cavachon friend we look after sometimes doesn't even do that, and needs encouragement to eat.

Dogs are opportunists and if they see food than that is an opportunity to enjoy!

Common. Both my dogs are like this. 7 year old 47# mix of bully breeds and Lab, and 2.5 year old 19# Pomeranian and other floofies mix.

Our dog loves to eat sticks, grass and poop (and food). She goes crazy, barking, spinning around and drooling for every meal. The excitement level would make you think she hasn’t eaten for weeks. She’s 8.

I think it is very breed dependent. I've never known a Labrador who isn't happy to eat some more.

We have always had beagles, and they will eat literally ANYTHING. Current one goes into the yard for a daily rabbit poop buffet. Previous one loved candles, wicker, coffee grounds, uncooked mac n cheese, to name a few. Current one stole 1/2 a pizza off the counter a few days ago. Pretty much nothing is off limits.

I too have noticed that dogs appear eager to consume food at every opportunity.

I’d say 25% based on my knowledge of 4 dogs. And she never grew out of it.

Do most dogs who are like this grow out of it?
