I had high hopes for the Functional medicine doctor at NIH that the poster mentioned above. Sadly, I can't say its changed anything.

I don't think it hurts to try, but if you have limited resources, time, etc, its not going to move the needle that much. We spent a ton on the out of pocket costs associated with a functional med doctor and on a million supplements. Just became a source of stress trying to get our child to take all the supplements and not eat certain foods. And then me feeling frustrated/angry that it wasn't working. Also, our child was older when we changed the diet and was impossible anytime our child was not home to control what they ate. I know at school they were eating the provided snacks, etc...same with any school party, birthday party.

Did they really do anything that made a difference? They both order tons of labs, will tell you to get your kid off dairy and gluten and take a bunch of supplements. Did nothing for us and wasted thousands of dollars and time I will never get back.

Try some of the doctors at NIHA (National Integrated Health Associates) on Wisconsin Avenue in Friendship Heights.

Has anyone seen a functional dr. or nutritionist to help their child with autism? If so, can you please recommend.

Thanks
