I think it’s a good thing, OP. I think they want your student and are trying to get them off the bubble. Be positive!

That was our experience -- we are an alumni family and the first year we applied, my child was rejected. The AD called me 24 hours before the decisions went out to give me a heads up and explain their reasoning.

Disagree. There is NO way that they would take this on before the selections are made. They need some sort of information from you - is this school your first choice, etc? I think it's a more positive sign.

+1. No way that is happening unless it’s for a sibling. They need info- that’s all.

I’ve definitely heard of offices that call for rejections early in special circumstances.

Same here, for legacies and siblings (although it's a little late for a sibling rejection).

Unless you're a sibling they won't call you early with a waitlist or no regardless of how much they like you. That's just not protocol.

It's either a waitlist sibling or they want to know if you will redshirt. I've seen posters on here (DCUM) get redshirt calls before.

How old is the kid?
Is it a sibling?

What grade? We got a call early to see if we would redshirt.

Also is this for an entry year? If a no entry year then maybe it’s good news.

Oh wow. Let us know when you find out! Do you have a sibling or connection to the school? If not, I would think it would be bad news. But I tend to think the worst!

The admissions officer at one of the schools we are applying to asked for a phone call tomorrow. Not specified why. In your experience, is this a good thing? A bad thing? Would they call you to tell you that there is a wait list or a no, if they really like you and don't want to send an impersonal email? If its information they need, what could they need this late in the game that they don't have already. We already said we are not financial aid candidates so it's not that. It's all anxiety producing, hope inducing, dread inducing and perplexing all at once!
