I have a boy, so at a different school. Brilliant, great resume, great stats, etc. However, he didn't apply to any of the schools you are using as your measure of high school worth. He didn't want to go to any of them. This is not a reflection on the quality of education he received at his high shcool. People who haven't been through it with a real kid with real opinions and choices, tend to read all of the wrong things into the list of schools students choose.


If what you say is true which I highly doubt you are an outlier.

One can see from the postings on this board that parents are not putting their kids in these schools to not attend top colleges. That is the goal they spew continuously how the education is better, well if it was truely that much better admissions would statistically show that and it does not.


I send my kids to private to learn how to spell truly and construct sentences that aren’t double negatives.

They did not post a matriculation list for last year, however, they did post "college acceptances." Keep in mind that with acceptances, one student is often accepted to multiple schools, so not a great tool for evaluation. The Academy of the Holy Cross is full of MAGA it has never been a bastion of academics. My DD played Basketball and soccer with families from here. She was the only one not attending HC. Long story as to how she ended up on this team. We experienced this from age 11 -18. I am absolutely horrified at how many of these families are now cult members spewing crap from Epoch times. That alone tells me academics are not there.

Op who cares. This is not the goal of the catholic families who are sending their daughters to these schools. I could got into Georgetown but chose a smaller Catholic school that wasn’t ranked as highly. I’m a SAHm now. Does it really matter where I went?

I think school fit is going to be more important - lets say SR is a horrible fit for your daughter and the commute would be horrible.... do you still pretend that this is the best option because it had the highest percentage here?


Nobody above claimed it was the only factor one should consider. But I see nothing wrong with considering matriculation lists as one informative factor, just like I think college attendance rates and average SAT scores are informative. Nobody is saying you should be paying attention to these indicators if these factors are not at all important to you.

I counted these up, and it appears SR and HC are accurate. I only got 21.7% for VISI, but close enough.

I have a kid who felt the same way...among all the top schools on that list, there was only one he wanted to attend badly and he got in. Refused to apply to any ivy's despite his perfect ACT score and other great things on his resume. That doesn't mean these matriculation lists are meaningless though. It gives you an idea of the level of academics of the HS overall.


Not if kids aren't applying to prestige schools or are choosing the schools that give them most money, and you have no way of knowing that from these lists. Where kids choose to go to college has less to do with how well educated they became in high school that the million other factors that go into that ultimate decision.

To whoever did this - could you do it for some other schools for comparison? Like Holton or Madeira for example.
