The football team should pay for marching band as they are there to support the team.

Does the football team also have to pay $400 for uniforms and participation?
At our non-W, high FARMS High School, it's $600 for cheerleading! And no, football players don't pay that much. I get the feeling that the most loved teams aren't subject to those fees.

At my kid's high school, the cost is $150 (+$40 if you need band shoes). The website says it "helps to cover transportation to events/games, dinners for home games, and more."

Same for our school.
T-shirt, black socks, band shoes, and then the annual fee of $150. They eat after half time at every home game, have a big dinner at the end of the season.
FWIW, the costs were similar to my other two kids sports. None of them were more than $150.
