Subject: What youth-HS sport was the best experience for your family?
Well it’s whatever your kid is interested in! In terms of community and socialization, dance has been amazing for my daughter. She’s with a large group of girls and they have the best time, it’s a big fun built-in friend network. Plus it’s great exercise, it’s drop off with minimal parent involvement except some weekend competitions in the spring. When high school comes along, the kids can join their high school dance team.

Swim, archery, climbing
In retrospect, all sports that are part of a team but emphasize individual achievement. Didn't notice that while going through it, but it's consistent. All traditional team sports that we tried were pretty painful. Don't get me started on soccer parents....

Cross Country - best
Soccer - worst, my kids love it, but it’s often stressful for them and us for various reasons

Summer swim! Great family activity for all ages and they learn/practice a life skill. Social activities for both parents and kids. I enjoy that it’s a team sport that spans across all age groups, so you have the older kids cheering on the younger ones. It can be as competitive (A meets) or as relaxed (B meets) as you choose.

I agree about the sense of community with baseball, definitely. There is a lot of drama though, as well- especially in little league. Some years seem to be better than others- seems to depend on the dominant parents/coaches. My older son’s (he aged out years ago) age group had a ton of drama, while my younger son’s age group has been fantastic. Same goes for travel/club teams- some teams are great, others really drama filled. Then again, I’d imagine that applies to many youth sports. It just depends.

Baseball has been the best. The little league complex and families have a strong sense of community.

I’ll answer with limited experience because my kids are young.
Youth baseball was the worst, so incredibly slow at the 6-7 year old level.
We have loved flag football and summer swim for our families. It was the most fun and all the families went and cheered on the kids.
