PP here - I am a former client actually. They did a great job with several rooms in my house, which I decorated at different times. They also picked some paint colors for me.

We're wrapping up an engagement with Havenly and it's gone pretty well. There are different tiers but we select the option that costs about $150 or so per room.

I don't want to share more than what folks are interested in but I'm Happy to answer questions about the experience.

I'm also looking for the going rate for something like this.

just need help with layout and choosing furniture (like OP, I do not want anything custom; just don't have time or patience to sift through the interwebs and make a plan).

So what would you pay per hour for this type of work (in Northern VA)?

I’ve promoted them here because I’m a former client. They fit in the in between imo (or did, it’s been a few years) of the store designers and the full service, traditional interior design. But I didn’t recommend them here because I think OP would still find them too expensive.

I haven’t actually used them, but one of the founders is a friend of a friend. So I keep looking at their site and thinking that I should try. I think they work with a lot of the things people already have?

I wish! They do exist but are hard to find. I knew one in my old city and have yet to find one here. I think you gotta find them by word of mouth because they’re not the highbrow ones who are all over social.

It’s a business model thing. It’s not sustainable/profitable for them to do a lot of small jobs.

Your best bet is to use free design services from stores. Furniture stores have them, blinds/shades places have them, paint stores have them. By their powers combined, you’ll have what you need. Do your best to collect samples and communicate clearly among them.

I would start with the rug and the sofa, from a store you like with the help of their designer to get the floorplan right. Than the blinds/shades. Take samples of the upholstery, a picture of the rug, and samples of the shades to a paint store like Monarch on Conn Ave to pick the paint last (because there are thousands of paint colors so it’s much easier to get paint to go with the other things than visa versa).

We need someone to help pick out furniture, blinds, paint etc but we don’t want things like expensive custom made furniture (custom blinds are ok). We are trying to keep costs down. Most of the people emailed don’t want to do just a few rooms, or they want to do lots of custom stuff.

Anyone know of someone who might do smaller projects like this?
