Of course he’s not into school if he’s not getting accommodations that would help him. It’s demoralizing to be asked to perform academically in ways that you have no hope of doing well at without accommodations. What does he need? Extra time? Copy of class notes? Ability to extend deadlines? Scratch paper? Ability to take pics of whiteboards in class (even when phones aren’t allowed? Testing in a small quiet environment? Use of a calculator? The ability to use spell check and speech to text and writing organizers?

My ADHD kid had all of that. Cannot imagine him being “into school” without it!

I wouldn't move with high hopes of support. Most MCPS schools are large and kids aren't going to get any personal attention.

We are coming from Deal and having second thoughts about Jackson Reed. Our kid plays a sport outside of school and is not a strong student. We’ve tried medication but it’s not a great fit right now. We are worried he will get lost in Jackson Reed and wondering how the non-academic kind of kids do at BCC. We can get him at 5O4 or possibly IEP and he’s been tested. He’s just not into school And we are worried with so much independence that he will P sidetracked and fool around. All I know he loves school for the social aspect but struggles academically. We cannot afford a private school but could potentially get some tutoring support which we’ve done in the past but it’s a lot of work to get a tutor outside of a full day of classes. Curious to learn about parents who had other kids in this predicament and how they fared. It seems like these boards are mostly filled with competitive A students parents commenting.
