Is there really an opportunity to move up from the white team to the blue team mid-season? Or is that just a glimmer of hope they leave your son with?

That's not or at least no longer accurate. Two of their teams finished at the top of their league this past season. Coaches are still nurturing, but there is a ramped up emphasis on strategy, which leads to winning.

I've noticed that this season the coaches are much more interactive and focus on strategy (as opposed to just basic skills) and, egads, winning.

But they still keep the let's learn and have fun approach.

Tough tightrope to walk, but given the other very competitive leagues in the area, I'm glad to see it. That may stem the tide of those departing for those leagues which win more, but have the shouting coaches syndrome.

DS is new to lacrosse and joined this league. It has just started. We like the coaches, but the families all seem cut from the private school cloth. We're at one of the DC public schools. I'm not sure if the other families know what to make of us. At least DS is having fun.

Great coaches. Great teams. I predict they'll take over Bethesda Lacrosse's dominance in the youth league arena within 2 years.

I would call Matt Breslin and ask him. His contact info is on Breakout's website. It depends on your son's age.

Does Breakout have a travel program?

Matt Breslin, who runs it, is good. Very good coaches. It used to be called Wylax. There teams play in the Bethesda League. The current U9 team wasn't very good this past season (did not win much) but very nice boys. My son plays on another team associated with Next Level, and has taken their classes for a while. He has also taken some Breakout classes and they are good. All the programs: Next Level, Breakout and Madlax, all do a good job teaching the basics and that gives your child a chance to see if he/she likes it. Next Levels facilituies are the best but the coaching is probably all pretty equal.

Trying to do some research for my 9 year old. Hubby is no help. Only cares about baseball.
