It’s actually better for you than running. It just takes too long. Don’t tell runners that because they’re psycho.

Not really I mean I walk my dog 2 to 3 times a day but on those days I don’t say that I exercised. It has to be more strenuous for me, or even something strength based like Pilates to say that I exercised.

Meh, I walked around the airport for an hour today with my suitcase instead of just sitting at the gate. I feel like that counts!! I was moving quickly and pulling my suitcase, so my HR did get a little elevated. Certainly better than sitting on my butt for that time!

Agree with all of this. Power walking at Orange Theory definitely is exercise. Stroll around the block or walking the dog I don't consider exercise.

It depends. Just starting out, definitely count it. The more fit you get the less benefit you'll get out of it without doing something to increase the intensity.
I don't count it for myself since my HR never gets above 100 and I don't enjoy just walking-I'd rather run.

Yes if you challenge yourself. No matter what level your fitness is, you can find ways to amp up your walks so that it's challenging. Example, I walk on the weekends - between 4-5 miles, lots of stairs and hills. By the time I return home I am toast. On my other days I lift weights and do barre or pilates.

Of course! My HR goes up to 140 when walking so why wouldn’t I?

Yes, I have a foot injury and am not allowed to do any recreational walking. I miss it.

I told my doctor I walk 2-3 miles a day and she counted that as exercise and seemed satisfied. Call it “urban hiking”.

When I was fit no. It was recreational. Now that I’m out of shape it’s exercise.

I want 1-3 miles per day. Should I count this as exercise?
