The principal at Forest Oak Middle School is leaving next Friday:

Dear Forest Oak Middle School Parents/Guardians, Students, and Staff Members:
As the Director in the Office of School Support and Well-Being for the Gaithersburg Cluster, I
am writing to inform you of an interim staffing change at Forest Oak Middle School.
Mr. Shahid Muhammad announced that he will be moving into a new position in Loudoun
County Public School effective March 6, 2023. Mr. Muhammad has been an outstanding leader
demonstrating unwavering commitment to students, staff, and families. We will miss him and
wish him well as he continues to positively impact a new community. We thank him for his
leadership to the Forest Oak Middle School Community.
Dr. Dacia Smith will serve as Acting Principal at Forest Oak Middle School beginning on March
6, 2023. Mr. Muhammad, Dr. Smith, and I will work together during these next couple weeks to
support the transition. Dr. Smith has been serving as the Secondary Supervisor for the
Montgomery Virtual Academy. Prior to this experience she served as the Assistant Principal of
Francis Scott Key Middle School. She is passionate about her work as an administrator. She is
prepared to provide strong leadership to the Forest Oak Middle School Community through the
end of this school year. Dr. Smith will work together with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
to ensure a smooth transition at Forest Oak Middle School.
In the next month, we will start the principal selection process with MCPS which requires input from
school staff and community members. As Director in the Office of School Support and Well-Being,
my office will conduct opportunities with stakeholders to collect leadership characteristics that are
important to the Forest Oak Community as we move through the candidate selection process.
I am committed to supporting the transition and Dr. Smith and look forward to collaborating with
Forest Oak Middle School in the future selection of a new principal.
Sincerely,
Nicole Sosik
Director, Office of School Support and Well-Being
