They are no more a fire hazard than an electric heater would be, maybe less so as there is no cord to trip over.

We are renovating an apartment in building that does not have/allow wood/gas fireplaces. What do folks think of electric fireplaces? Cheesy? The reno will be somewhat highend so don't want to ruin it by making a glaring mistake.
