Dressing in a suit to placate some boss’s ego trip or inflexibility sure could be. What else are they going to double down on - marking down ten minutes of leave if you leave early, but not giving credit for the half hour you came in early? Offices are more casual now, so if you can’t wear khakis and a button down for non-client days, the boss is probably a PITA on many other things.

It depends how self-indulgent you are. It's only clothing, after all. If the 5th day/week in the office would greatly impact you in some manner rather than just being somewhat less preferable, then that might be the answer to your question.

But all things aren't equal here - you'd make more money, but it will "cost" you something. Only you can determine whether the value of the extra money outweighs whatever drawbacks you associate with wearing a suit and coming in to the office. Expressed differently, how much does the money matter to you? Will it allow you to eventually retire earlier than you would otherwise be able to? Will it give you more and nicer vacations every year? Will it give you more retirement income than you had planned for? Will the job position you for bigger and better things down the road in a way your current role does not? If the new job won't provide a meaningful impact to your long-term financial position, then it may not be worth it. Otherwise, it may be worth sucking it up.

I would be okay with it if it is client facing (even if your job isn’t, if there are clients in and out) but if it’s just because the boss likes suits I would worry about the culture. The Friday thing doesn’t make sense to me because if the point is clients, you still have clients on Fridays. I don’t get why you would dress up for M-Th if you didn’t have to on Friday tbh.

If they told you it was in person why would you have assumed hybrid?

Being uncomfortable in a suit for 55 hours per week (including transit) would not be worth it to my DH.

If they are offering you $205K per year then you should jump at it because based on your writing, you don't seem to have very strong written communication skills.

Just tell the interviewer that you crowdsourced this question and they won’t hire you. Problem solved on its own.

What kind of business is it? Is it that suits are appropriate (client facing lawyer) or is this company really stuffy and terrible? If it is, I wouldn't make that kind of move for $35k. If it's just that the job requires it, then you have to add up all the other things you're giving up and keep looking if it's not worth it for that small of a raise.

It would have to be a really interesting job for that to be worth it.

I had an interview for a job with a 35k raise. They told me it was in person. It is like a 30-40 minute drive. I was ok with that. Currently I am 100 percent WFH.

But at interview I found out it is 100 percent in office only 5 days a week and CEO requires for men a full suit everyday.

My last in person job was dress down with Fridays allowed to WFH. I don’t think I had an in person job with a Suit Requirement since 2007.

I will go next interview, but now thinking is it worth it? Paying for dry cleaning, eating lunch out or making lunch, wear and tear car.

I have zero child care issues my kids are grown. That is not an issue. I actually liked 4 days in office casual dress with Friday WFH. But this seem harsh. Is 35k enough of a raise? It is $170k to $205k
