NP. Both things can be true. “The city of Boston” as a whole is way more than Harvard, MIT, BC, Northeastern, BU, etc.

DC area native here (lived in DC, Md, and Va), and I loooove Boston and have thought about living there. But I’m a white woman. YMMV.

City of dc is better—green, walkable, diverse, better food. The suburbs of Boston are better—scenic, proximity to water, etc.

Both are educated cities. Both have cream of the crop white collar jobs with high salaries. Weather is probably worse in Boston in the winter while DC gets more mosquitoes in the summer. Cost of living seems somewhat conmparable. Both have tons of history. Which city is better overall for living in and why? I have a huge potential job opportunity in Boston. It'd be a big effort to move up there though from here.
