Not impossible.
-PP above with a PK4 student at a Deal feeder
You are PK4 OOB, no sibling, no Spanish dom at one of the above schools? I guess I could maybe see Shepherd, but even that seems unlikely for PK.

OP here: great question. Yes, we would based on the DCI feed and proximity to our house. Commute isn't too big of a concern which is why we have three WOTP schools on the list. But fully aware there is basically 0% chance to get in.
To other question above about priority: feeder, DCPS over a charter (if we don't get one of the top 3). The idea of the "neighborhood school" playground, kids who live close by, etc. Shepherd, Takoma, Whittier, and Lewis are all quite close to us in Brightwood. The WOTP schools are a pipe dream.
As someone in your neighborhood living the pipe dream, think hard about your relative preferences for Whittier/Takoma/Lewis vs the WOTP schools and make sure they are ranked in the true order of schools you'd want to enroll in so you don't get dropped from waitlists if you match somewhere.
Yea I’m confused about order of the DCPS schools if you are worried about MS/HS feed.

Brightwood resident. We do not want our IB.
Currently PK3 student at a Charter in NE. Doing the lottery again (PK4) for potential into a DCPS or different Charter. We are happy with the Charter he is in now.
We are fully aware the DCPS schools are a .001% chance but cant win the lottery without playing. The idea would be the top 3 choice Charter are "better" (maybe not?) than the Charter he is in now and has an actual middle feeder. Current school has no feeder. I am sure DCUM can figure out which one he goes to. It is a good school.
Ranked in order:
LAMB
Yu Ying
DCB
Shepherd Elem
Whittier
Takoma
John Lewis
Lafayette
Murch
Oyster Adams
Cap City Lower
Breakthrough Montessori
