Lake Anna tempting because so close but I can’t seem to get over the water being warm because of the nuclear power plant.
How are the summer activities and fishing at deep creek?
Which would you choose?
We have a $1-2m budget. Could be more if we rent it out a few weeks.
ABSOLUTELY Deep Creek! They both have the same access to swimming, fishing, kayaking, etc., but Deep Creek is better for lots of reasons. First, last summer there was a long period where officials advised against swimming in parts of Lake Anna because of algae levels. You'd have to know that swimming near your property would not be impacted by that. Second, Deep Creek is just prettier. Third, Deep Creek is always about 10 degrees cooler than DC which makes it a great place to go in summer. Fourth, there are decent, fun places to eat out in Deep Creek, and those are really rare at Lake Anna. Fifth, there is so much to do near Deep Creek besides just the lake. There are fun summer activities at WISP like a ropes course and the mountain roller coaster. There's better hiking in the state park. There's Swallow Falls, which is beautiful, and Falling Water is not far. The Circle R ranch is great for riding. The Garrett County Fair in the summer is so fun. I know I sound obsessed. We've been going to Deep Creek almost every summer since DH and I were dating, so for about 15 years. I've looked into Lake Anna as a closer alternative and have never felt like it measured up. I'd rather suck it up and drive so we can enjoy ourselves more.
