I am 6 2” and just flew ANA. I flew premium economy and am glad I did, though it wasn’t cheap. I was able to sleep relatively well.

Their new business class product looked really nice though…

What's his inseam?

I have a 36" inseam. I'm uncomfortable but can hang in international economy. I am extremely uncomfortable in anything over about 3 hours on US domestic economy.

Also, how older are your kids? If cost is an issue, sit your tall husband next to a short kid, and he can have extra space under the seat in front of the child.

ANA has pretty decent legroom in coach. So does JAL. It's ironic because the Japanese are shorter people yet their airlines give you decent space in coach. Certainly better than anything on a US airline. Premium Economy hands down will be more comfortable, however. If you can swing the cost for hubby, definitely go for it.

That said, I don't recommending sleeping on the flight. If you've never done a 12 hour switch its BRUTAL. Takes about 5 days to not wake up at 3am every day.

No, westbound isn't bad. Go to bed at 8 pm, up at 5 am, very doable, and a schedule many people keep every day.

Coming home will make you wish you were dead.

A few inches may move him from the 9th circle to the 8th circle of living hell but there’s no way it’s going to be the difference between eyes propped open and sleeping like a baby. That said, comfort is worth something and I doubt much of anything Japanese is built with 6 foot plus people in kind.

Yep, this.

6'3" DS flew in Economy to Japan. Said never again and paid for the premium economy on the way back from Japan.

My 6’3” husband always flies at least premium economy because he simply cannot get comfortable in seats where his knees touch the seat in front, which they pretty much always do in regular economy.

He's 6'2" with long legs and has always had trouble sleeping on airplanes. He says it's the lack of leg room that bothers him, not the lie-flat issue. I've heard the economy seats on ANA are bigger than domestic economy, but wanted to see if anyone had first hand knowledge of it.

Post 02/15/2023 10:16     Subject: Question for people over six feet tall about seats on ANA All Nippon Airways

We're taking a once-in-a-lifetime family trip to Japan this summer. Cost is an issue for us, but we also want to make sure that we have the best time possible, since this is really the only time we'll be able to take a trip like this. We're a family of five. My husband is over six feet tall, and this is a long flight. We're looking at whether to buy him an premium economy seat, which seems like it'll get him about 4 extra inches of leg room over regular economy. The hope is that he'll have a better chance at sleeping on the flight, thus not being overtired when we arrive in Japan. I thought I'd ask to see if any other tall people have flown on ANA All Nippon Airways. Do the premium economy seats give you enough leg room to sleep comfortably? Did the regular economy seats give you enough leg room? Just want to make sure the extra cost will actually be helpful. Thanks for any tips.
